Dr. Korbinian S. Kramer studied Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Renewable Energy Conversion in Augsburg, Germany. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Freiburg in Innovation Management. At the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy he is heading a working group on testing, quality assurance and technical characterization of heating and cooling technologies, such as solar thermal and heat pumps. Involvement in standardization work since more than 12 years and over 45 publications are part of his expertise. He is lecturer at the University of Freiburg in the Master Curses Renewable Energy Management and Sustainable System Engineering.
Since 2009 Sabine Putz is head of the Research and Development department and since 2015 she is Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of SOLID.
Sabine Putz is involved in numerous R&D projects on solar thermal heating and cooling at the national, European and international level. Sabine Putz represents the Operating Agent of IEA SHC TASK 55, which deals with large scale solar thermal district heating.
Richard Perez leads solar energy research at University at Albany’s Atmospheric Sciences Research Center. He sits on the Advisory Board of the George Washington University’s Solar Institute, and has served multiple terms on the board of the American Solar Energy Society and as associate editor of Solar Energy Journal. He has produced over 250 journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. He holds US patents on energy storage, and load management using photovoltaics. He has received several international awards including a Certificate for Outstanding Research from the USDOE, the American Solar Energy Society’s Charles Greeley Abbot Award; the First International Building and Daylight Award from the Velux Foundation, and the International Solar Energy Society’s Farrington Daniels Award, for outstanding contributions in science, technology and engineering of solar energy applications.
Prof Yanjun DAI is the head of the department of Power and Energy Engineering, as well as the Vice Director of the Engineering Research Center of Solar Energy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. He is a member of ISES, and is the Subject Editor for the Solar Energy Journal. He is Board Member of the Chinese Renewable Energy Society and Chairman of the Shanghai Solar Energy Society. His research interests involve solar heating and cooling, solar buildings, Solar PV systems, desiccant dehumidification and moisture control in built environment, solar desalination and more.
Bärbel Epp is the founder and managing director of the German consultancy solrico – solar market research & international communication. She is responsible for the international newsletter on the web portal www.solarthermalworld.org, reporting exclusively about market and technology trends in the solar heating and cooling sector. solrico also published the first World Map of SHIP suppliers (SHIP = Solar Heat for Industrial Processes) see www.solar-payback.com/suppliers and carries out surveys among the around 80 companies listed on the world map. Since three years Bärbel Epp is also author of the SHC chapter of the Annual Global Status Report on Renewables published by REN21.
Dr. Moreno is Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Electrical Engineering of the University of Chile and a Research Associate at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Imperial College London. He is also a Lead Investigator of the Energy Group in the Complex Engineering Systems Institute, housed at the University of Chile. His research focuses on the development of new concepts and models in energy grids to make electricity more sustainable, resilient, reliable and affordable through the application of advanced stochastic, robust and distributionally robust optimisation. His research outputs include more than 55 papers published in journals and conferences proceedings. He is also an Editor of the newly formed IEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy, a regular reviewer of other 8 internationally recognised journals of IEEE, IET and Elsevier, and an organiser of a number of technical activities in IEEE, CIGRE and Operations Research conferences. He is also the Chair of the Latin American Infrastructure Working Group and the Vice-Chair of the Natural Disaster Mitigation Methods and Operation Technology Working Group, both part of the Power and Energy Society of IEEE.
Lawrence L. Kazmerski is Emeritus Research Staff Member of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, Colorado, having last served as Executive Director Science and Technology Partnerships at NREL 2009-2013. He is currently Research Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, with the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI). Kazmerski’s 50-year professional career in solar energy includes serving as the founding Director of the National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV) for the period 1999 through 2008.
Dr. Manuel Romero received the ISES Farrington Daniels Award for his contributions to the development of high temperature solar concentrating systems since 1985. From 2002-2004 he was Director of the Plataforma Solar de Almería and Director of the Renewable Energy Division of CIEMAT in Spain from 2004 till 2008. Curretnly he is Deputy Director and Research Professor of IMDEA Energy Institute in Móstoles, Spain, with activities in high-flux modular concentrating solar power technologies and solar fuels and chemicals production. He has been ExCo Member of the Implementing Agreement of the IEA on Solar Heating and Cooling and Operating Agent and ExCo Member at the Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems (SolarPACES). Dr Romero is also present member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Energy Research.and WIREs Energy & Environment.
Wim van Helden studied physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where he also did his PhD work on Energy Technology. For 11 years, he was responsible for the group on Thermal Systems in the Built Environment of the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, ECN. After that, he started his own consultancy activities in the field of renewable heat. He now works with AEE INTEC, Austria, since 2014 and is responsible for the Thermal Energy Storages group. He leads a number of international and national R&D projects on compact and large scale thermal energy storage technologies and is active in the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Renewable Heating and Cooling.
Christopher Voglstätter has studied Mechanical Engineering with a focus on renewable energy technologies at the Technical University of Munich in Germany. Since 2008 he is working at Fraunhofer ISE in the division for “Hydrogen Technologies”. He has worked on Hydrogen Generation via Reforming of Methanol, has constructed and operated a hydrogen refueling station and a hydrogen injection station on both of which are still operated at the Fraunhofer ISE today. Since 2015 he is leading the Team “Power-to-Gas” at Fraunhofer ISE which focuses on the techno-economic analysis of electrolysis and hydrogen plants in the energy system, in local hydrogen concepts as well as business cases for these plants.
